About Elizabeth Bond
Elizabeth has been practicing yoga for 15 years, and has been teaching yoga for 4 years, since being certified in Prana Yoga.  Her interest in yoga has evolved from a life-long interest in dance and fitness, and was particularly inspired by her 30+ years of work as a Clinical Psychologist, with an increasing interest over the past 15-20 years in mind-body interventions and energy psychology.  Given her profession, she is especially interested in the beneficial effects of yoga on mood regulation and its contribution in the treatment of anxiety and depression.  Her continued training has included a certification in LifeForce Yoga for Mood Management, taught by Amy Weintraub at Kripalu.   "In addition to yoga being fun and helping us care for our bodies, I see yoga as a microcosm of how to life one's life, in that it awakens all aspects of our being, teaching us to be present in each moment, without judgment, and trains us in the acceptance of ourselves and life itself.  As we shine the light of our gentle attention on our own experience, physical and emotional discomforts soften and healing can occur.  And aside from whatever language we use to describe the practice of yoga, it just plain feels great."

Once the body has been gently warmed and relaxed the class will ease into the complementive practice of Yoga Nidra. Yoga Nidra is a technique for entering into a total mind & body meditation that draws deep conscious relaxation in either a seated asana or laying flat position. Yoga Nidra creates a healing trance like experience in a lucid and conscious state in which the body replenishes its energy centers. Minutes of Yoga Nidra are equivalent in there regenerative power to hours of deep sleep. It is often said that the most challenging pose for yogi's/yogini's to do is laying still in body and mind. Discover the healing and uplifting power of music in this 1 hour Hatha Yoga style class that synchronizes breathing, postures and meditation to reduce stress and anxiety, while building core and overall physical strength. Various styles and eras of music will be explored every couple of weeks, with brief historical references provided. Music is the universal language of the soul. It has the ability to dig into the deepest corners of our minds and take us to another time and place. The Om, for example, which has been chanted for the last 4,000 years, carries a divine sound which is found in all of creation. Although yoga can be practiced in silence, its effects can be magnified if it is paired with nice, pleasant music.To that end, this class aims to utilize the profound and positive effects of music, in harmony with synchronizing pranayama, asana and meditation to create a trouble free mind and a strong body and spirit. Particularly when practicing asana, some pose(s) may feel difficult or challenging. Listening to music takes us to a place of grace and ease where yoga becomes more of a dance than just mere posture. Transitioning from one pose to the next feels better and effortless when it is accompanied by beautiful, great music.
