Pilates was created in the 1940’s by German health and fitness expert Joseph Pilates. It quickly gained popularity amongst dancers, boxers, and gymnasts as a way for them to increase flexibility, build core strength, and tone key muscle groups.
Engagement of “Powerhouse” muscles is at the foundation of all of the 24 classical moves.
6 principles of Pilates:Concentration, Control, Centering, Flow, Precision, Breathing. These concepts will be discussed in depth during the workshop.
The workshop will include talk on the history of Pilates, a presentation of the book Healthy Curvy- Love Your Shape, Lose the Weight- (Race and weight loss), Pilates health benefits, safety, and helpful dietary guidelines.A warm-up, 1 hour work out, cool down, and brief question and answer portion. Future dates for class will also be provided during the workshop. Please wear comfortable work out clothing and water.
This workshop is presented by Makeba Judge, Third Root Collective Member, Board Certified Licensed Acupuncturist, Traditional Chinese Medicine Herbalist, Founder of Petalwise for Women (www.petalwise.com) and author of the Book-Healthy Curvy, Love Your Shape/ Lose the Weight. Makeba began her career as a Certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor, she recently recertified as a Pilates instructor in 2013.
