    Emily trained as an amateur boxer from 2005 to 2010, and was a 2x finalist in the New York Daily News Golden Gloves. She was an assistant coach with "Discovering Your Hidden Warrior," a yoga / boxing program at Kripalu in 2008 & 2009. She offers an integrated yogic approach to classic Western boxing taught by private sessions and group workshops for youth and adults, as well as within queer communities.

    Third Root is holds a Secular Buddhist Studies Program on Monday nights with a talented pool of Buddhism and meditation teachers that resonate with the teaching styles and philosophy and style at Third Root!     A free and happy psoas allows the body to move with peak efficiency and little strain. Your psoas muscle is the main hip flexor of the body and the main engine of walking. It is essentially responsible for holding us upright while standing. Issues with the psoas can lead to any number of problems throughout your body—both physical and emotional.
    Lower back pain and other joint discomfort as well as disturbances to the nervous system can be linked to the psoas.This is not a yoga class. You will spend the afternoon awakening, learning about andreleasing the Iliopsoas muscle group and understanding its core function within the body.

    About the Facilitator:

    Alicia Ohs has been practicing yoga for over 15 years and teaching for 9. She certified through OM Yoga in 2005, and studied as an advanced anatomy student with Leslie Kaminoff, author of ‘Yoga Anatomy’ and founder of The Breathing Project, NYC. She taught at Sadhana and Satya in upstate New York from 2006-2007.

    In the last few years, Alicia has geared her teaching practice towards working with activists, artists and those dealing with injury. She teaches workshops in anatomy awareness, self-care and personal empowerment through yoga at Third Root Community Health Center, The Audre Lorde Project, and The Leadership Program. She still loves the pool-o-sweat on the mat practice and dips her toe in the power Vinyasa waters by taking and subbing classes at Kula Yoga Project.

    Alicia considers yoga a healing technique that all people should have access to regardless of age, race and class. She has taught in California, New Mexico and throughout New York, from privates to prison.

    Alicia holds a BFA in Experimental Theatre from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. She works as a professional dancer and theatre artist, currently as a collaborating and performing member of Faye Driscoll Dance Group.
