Yoga Nidra, or yogic sleep, is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, like the "going-to-sleep" stage, typically induced by a guided meditation. Join Tamil Krishnaswamyin learning this traditional meditation practice from India through this 3-part series. Week 1: 61 Points: The traditional name for the 61-points exercise is shavayatra, "traveling through the corpse." How does it help? Complete release of muscular tension. This exercise affects the physical body by working deeply on the pranic field and the nervous system. We generally focus on relaxing muscle groups, but 61-points focuses on nerve-rich points in the body, helping to balance the subtle energies and increasing mental harmony in the process. Week 2: Shithali Karana: Attention and breath are the two key factors in relaxation. To calm the monkey mind we focus on our breath as you are taken into a deeper relaxation. A very deep relaxation practice, focusing on breathing combined with chakras that are linked with our Nadis (energy channels in the body) prepares you for next level. Week 3: Yoga Nidra: It is a state of conscious deep sleep; you will be able to connect with your inner self much better. What does it hold for me?
