A fitness-based approach to Vinyasa style flow. In this heated practice, students will focus on linking conscious breath with a vigorous and mindful flow. In a power yoga class, students will build strength, flexibility and concentration while cleansing the body and calming the mind. You can expect a great cardiovascular and strength building workout combined with breath work. ----These classes are open to all levels of practice.Your instructor will give you options and modifications throughout the class.More complex poses may be introduced for advanced students, while beginners can work at their own level and work towards what's next!If you are brand new to yoga, we recommend starting with the Brand New to Yoga and/or Beginner Flow class, but this is not required and there is no previous experience needed to enjoy a mixed level class.

Jan has been a fitness and yoga instructor for over 30 years. She has a vast athletic background and incorporates elements of Anusara, Vinyasa, and Kundalini yoga as well as modern dance in her classes without losing a sense of lightheartedness and fun. Her devout study of yoga began after experiencing transformative effects from practicing as a student.She is grateful for her teachers, Doug Keller, Joe Roberson, Simon Park, Shiva Rea, Kim Groark, Lauren Peterson and Faith Hunter. She has over 5000 hours teaching experience, recently received her 500 Hour RYT as well as a 200 E­RYT and continues to find passion for the study of Yoga and meditation daily. Her passion for teaching yoga stemmed from the affect yoga has had meeting challenges in her own life while maintaining focus, clarity, and balance. Everyday she is reminded of how powerful the practice can be mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually and has devoted her life to helping others capture this, even in the smallest of ways through the practice of Yoga.

Heated Traditional Vinyasa Flow (all levels)

Ever wonder where Vinyasa Flow originated from?This class is a traditional approach to the Vinyasa yoga style, which dates back to as early as 1930.Like a Vinyasa class, each movement is synchronized with breath.Expect this class to include traditional asana (poses) and sequences: sun salutations, standing poses, seated poses, backbends and an opportunity to learn/practice inversions.Great class for anyone who is interested in learning more about Traditional Vinyasa Flow (or Ashtanga Vinyasa).Open to all experience levels (even beginners!) and individual modifications will be available.Time for Q&A following class for assistance with postures and other inquires will be available as well.
About Donna Martin
Donna Martin, RYT200, began her yoga practice over 12 years ago. She walked into a neighborhood yoga studio took the next class offered and went back to this studio 6 days a week for the next 2 years. She has been practicing and studying ever since. Her teaching is rooted in the belief that the practice itself is the great teacher. Her teaching philosophy is to guide the people in front of her as they are on that particular day in that moment. Her classes focus on safe and effective alignment from the ground up. Her classes incorporate Ashtanga Vinyasa -- a traditional practice dedicated to a precise coordination of breath, movement, posture and gaze with alignment-based guidance and individualized modifications. She is first and foremost a student and continues her study in asana alignment and Yoga therapy with Doug Keller and Shannon Von Burns. She practices Ashtanga Vinyasa with Jen Rene, Peg Mulqueen, David Kyle and Tova Steiner. She is grateful to her 2 young children and supportive partner who make everything possible.

Daisy Whittemore, E-RYT200, has spent more than 12 years studying different types of yoga, including Iyengar, Anusara, Vinyasa flow, and Prenatal. Her class offerings draw from a rich blend of these yoga styles with a focus on effective alignment-based practice to give students a solid foundation for safely accomplishing Vinyasa flow segments, in her classes and elsewhere. She completed her 200 hour teacher training in the Anusara style of yoga at Willow Street Yoga Center, and continues her study as teacher and student– in alignment, sequencing, meditation, and philosophy with a wide-range of teachers including Christina Sell, Sianna Sherman, Sally Kempton, Janice Clarfield, and Suzie Hurley. About Lauren Richardson
Lauren Richardson, E-RYT 200, Lauren discovered yoga over twenty years ago as a way to balance her athletic pursuits, passionate heart and overall curiosity of being. After practicing a variety of styles, she trained with Jonny Kest in the Ashtanga tradition. She teaches a dynamic series of sequenced postures that flow together to promote mobility and healing in the body, focus and ease in the mind and awareness and connection with the breath. She enjoys working with all ages and abilities and believes that yoga meets you where you are, as it is both therapeutic and invigorating. In addition to working in studios, Lauren has had the opportunity to share the benefits of yoga with children in camps, schools and as a training element of many athletic teams. She has directed yoga teacher training programs for the past 5 years at multiple centers and continues to learn and grow from her inspiring student trainees.

Debi, RYT 200, started practicing yoga 14 years ago when she was pregnant with her first child. It made such a positive impression on her both physically and mentally that she continued exploring yoga. After trying the Anussara, Hatha, Ashtanga, Iyengar, and Vinyasa styles, Debi decided to focus on Vinyasa. She is thrilled to be able to help others discover the amazing benefits that yoga can offer. Yoga has become part of who she is and she feels at home and at peace while practicing. When her students also feel that way, she will know that she has made a real difference. Debi also has over 17 years of alternative health experience working for a company that produced cutting edge health content, nutritional supplements, organic foods, and natural skin care products. About Sara Crosby
Trained as a dancer her whole life, Sara first saw Vinyasa yoga as a natural supplement to her dancing. Though after discovering Shiva Rea’s Prana Flow in 2006, her commitment to yoga jumped to a whole new level. The guided free form movement and creative, flowing sequencing really resonated; it was like dancing on her mat. Sara received her 200 hour RYT at Flow Yoga Center and is currently studying to complete her 500 hour RYT in Prana Flow at Ananda Shala. Yoga has also ignited a deep passion for service work, with a focus on sustainable agriculture and community development, taking Sara from the streets of DC to the streets of Miami, to the mountains of Guatemala, Peru and beyond. She also recently completed the Off the Mat and Into the World Leadership Training Program with Seane Corn and hopes to continue to bring yoga to those who need it most, but most often have the least access to it’s benefits. When not on the mat, Sara works as a documentary film producer and brand new mom to a beautiful baby girl.

About Jarrad Love
Jarrad, RYT 200, has been practicing yoga since 2007. As as seeker of the Truth, he was immediately drawn to the spiritual disciplines of yoga. However, it was not long until years of physical neglect bubbled to the top. It is very challenging to sit in meditation if your hips, back and neck are bothering you! Luckily, his wife was in a teacher training program and he began to practice with her. Through years of dedication to the practice, Jarrad noticed a great transformation of his being. This dedication as well as a desire to connect with others led Jarrad to complete teacher training at Willow Street Yoga Center. Jarrad teaches a flowing alignment-based class, in which he hopes students can create a greater well-being for themselves that can be felt on and off the mat. Jarrad pulls from this ancient tradition and western view to make a rich experience for his students. He believes that our own connection to our yoga practice is a very deep and meaningful one, however, that does not mean a class can't be fun and uplifting, which is the emphasis of every class!

Alicia embraces the notion that yogic practice is unique for each individual and is best expressed through authenticity. She often leverages years of corporate work experience with her deep understanding of the mind-body-soul connection to empower students with tools to use on and off the yoga mat. Alicia comes from a family of Kripalu trained yogis and started her personal journey at age 19. About Lika Elwood
Lika’s dream came true when she completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in Washington DC, becoming a full-time yoga teacher. Initially Lika (E-RYT 200), was drawn to yoga as a way to maintain her flexibility and strength but was intimidated by yoga’s spiritual and scholastic side which she did not find in previous experiences with ballet and modern dance. After a short time however she discovered the power of yoga as a path to a more balanced, compassionate, meaningful and happy life. Lika teaches well-sequenced yoga classes and workshops focused on creating a comfortable, non-competitive and SAFE space where students can explore their practice while challenging themselves regardless of their background and level of their practice. She incorporates guided meditation, pranayama and aromatherapy in her classes, always encouraging her students to find one breath at the time and be their own teachers by taking what serves them and leaving what does not. Lika‘s training is diverse and continuing. In this workshop we will explore the proper alignment of backbends to make them more accessible and open on physical and emotional level as we will learn healthy techniques and anatomical awareness for the longterm practice of heart openers. Lika’s dream came true when she completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in Washington DC, becoming a full-time yoga teacher. Initially Lika (E-RYT 200), was drawn to yoga as a way to maintain her flexibility and strength but was intimidated by yoga’s spiritual and scholastic side which she did not find in previous experiences with ballet and modern dance. Roni Zelivinski, 200hr RYT, first found yoga when she was fourteen years old, fell in love instantly and has been practicing ever since. About Allison Rose
Initially trained in power Vinyasa yoga, Allison (MHS, E-RYT 500, CPT) has been teaching yoga since 2003. In May 2015, she graduated from the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, School of Ayurveda where she received her 500-hour teaching certificate as an Ayurveda Yoga Specialist. She is also a Level 1 certified Restorative Yoga Teacher under the guidance of her teacher, Judith Hanson Lasater. With a background in fitness and personal training—and like many students of yoga, Allison initially fell in love with the strength and physical challenge of the asana practice. However, she quickly realized that there was so much more to yoga on and off the mat and is continually seeking to evolve her practice and teaching in the areas of pranayama, meditation, Ayurveda medicine and aromatherapy, and other healing modalities. As a teacher, Allison describes her style as multidisciplinary— and is primarily influenced by her love for the creative elements of Vinyasa flow, the alignment principals of Iyengar, and the body-centered focus of Kripalu yoga. Allison’s classes are a dynamic fusion of core strength, thoughtful sequencing, and graceful flow culminating to deeper restorative postures, breath work, and meditation. Chad is an RYT-200 instructor who studied multidisciplinary yoga (vinyasa, meditation, pranayamas, etc.) as a freshman in college. He started teaching yoga in Fall of 2014 for the University of Maryland and now teaches part-time while working for the federal government. He loves giving students a gentle tug to leave the workplace in the workplace and just be on the mat so that the work of self-care can get done. Chad enjoys sharing classes that are full of juicy smiles, cheesy jokes, and plenty of opportunities to play with yoga postures in a mindful and safe space. Debi, RYT 200, started practicing yoga 14 years ago when she was pregnant with her first child. However, it was not long until years of physical neglect bubbled to the top. It is very challenging to sit in meditation if your hips, back and neck are bothering you! Luckily, his wife was in a teacher training program and he began to practice with her. Through years of dedication to the practice, Jarrad noticed a great transformation of his being. This dedication as well as a desire to connect with others led Jarrad to complete teacher training at Willow Street Yoga Center. Jarrad teaches a flowing alignment-based class, in which he hopes students can create a greater well-being for themselves that can be felt on and off the mat. Jarrad pulls from this ancient tradition and western view to make a rich experience for his students. About Sara Crosby
Trained as a dancer her whole life, Sara first saw Vinyasa yoga as a natural supplement to her dancing. Though after discovering Shiva Rea’s Prana Flow in 2006, her commitment to yoga jumped to a whole new level. The guided free form movement and creative, flowing sequencing really resonated; it was like dancing on her mat. Sara received her 200 hour RYT at Flow Yoga Center and is currently studying to complete her 500 hour RYT in Prana Flow at Ananda Shala. Yoga has also ignited a deep passion for service work, with a focus on sustainable agriculture and community development, taking Sara from the streets of DC to the streets of Miami, to the mountains of Guatemala, Peru and beyond. She also recently completed the Off the Mat and Into the World Leadership Training Program with Seane Corn and hopes to continue to bring yoga to those who need it most, but most often have the least access to it’s benefits. In this Vinyasa Flow class you will synchronize breath with movement. Students will focus on linking conscious breath with a mindful flow. In a Vinyasa flow class, students awaken their strength, energy, and flexibility in a fun atmosphere. ----Mixed Level: These classes are open to all levels of practice.Your instructor will give you options and modifications throughout the class.More complex poses may be introduced for advanced students, while beginners can work at their own level and work towards what's next!If you are brand new to yoga, we recommend starting with the Brand New to Yoga and/or Beginner Flow class, but this is not required and there is no previous experience needed to enjoy a mixed level class.
About Lika Elwood
Lika’s dream came true when she completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in Washington DC, becoming a full-time yoga teacher. Initially Lika (E-RYT 200), was drawn to yoga as a way to maintain her flexibility and strength but was intimidated by yoga’s spiritual and scholastic side which she did not find in previous experiences with ballet and modern dance. After a short time however she discovered the power of yoga as a path to a more balanced, compassionate, meaningful and happy life. Lika teaches well-sequenced yoga classes and workshops focused on creating a comfortable, non-competitive and SAFE space where students can explore their practice while challenging themselves regardless of their background and level of their practice. She incorporates guided meditation, pranayama and aromatherapy in her classes, always encouraging her students to find one breath at the time and be their own teachers by taking what serves them and leaving what does not. Lika‘s training is diverse and continuing. She has taken countless workshops and trainings in different styles of yoga including Vinyasa Flow, Prana Flow, Ashtanga, Rocket Yoga, Jivamukti, Kids yoga, Aerial yoga, Yoga Nidra, Meditation and Restorative yoga. She has studied under the guidance of instructors such as David Williams, David Swenson, Shiva Rea, David Kyle, Tara Brach, Elena Brower and others. Lika continues to evolve as she sees herself in the position of a student and a practitioner first, and only then a teacher. Lika enjoys being an integral part of the Yoga Teacher Training programs at extendYoga. She also loves spending her free time with her husband, rambunctious son, and her two dogs, Bonny and Morgan.
