Yin/Restorative Yoga

Unlike most yoga practices here in the West, Yin involves very little movement. Poses are supported through the use of various props and held for three to five minutes each. The result is a deep stretching and opening of not just muscles, but the connective tissues and fascia that run throughout the body. The practices typically focus on the hips and lower back. Practitioners of Yin Yoga often find themselves able to experience deeper meditation and more comfort in their other Yang-style yoga practices. Suitable for practitioners of any experience level, including beginners.

A very popular contemporary yoga style, this class requires a good, working-knowledge of the basic yoga postures in order to practice safely. The class leads through a series of breath-synchronized postures which are linked to one another through a flowing movement. The class harmonizes each movement of the body to each breath taken, so the breath is not forced to follow the actions of the body as occurs with other forms of exercise. Please note that this general-style class is conducted in a unique way by each different instructor. Therefore, Vinyasa with one teacher might not be the same experience as Vinyasa with another teacher.
