I first discovered the healing power of yoga in 1989 as a competitive cyclist recovering from a back injury and have been teaching since 1994. For about a ten year period, I studied extensively in the Iyengar method and after much exploration and study with some of this country’s amazing teachers including Judith Lasater, Patricia Walden, Paul Grilley and Seanne Corne, I found my way to Anusara Yoga. Anusara Yoga is grounded in a Tantric philosophy of intrinsic goodness. This philosophy teaches non-duality, everything in the world is part of the same Supreme Consciousness – and it’s all good! I owe much much gratitude to my current teachers Sianna Sherman and John Friend (founder of Anusara Yoga) who continue to open my mind and heart in ways that are beyond words. As an Anusara- Inspired teacher on the path to full certification, I find great delight in encouraging play and discovery to help others see and express their innate beauty.
My background is also informed by my choice of professional occupation. I am a wellness professional with a M.S. degree in exercise science, biomechanics. I established employee wellness programs at Reebok International and NIOSH before establishing my own yoga studio for eight years and then working in my current job as Director of the WELLWVU Office of Wellness and Health Promotion where I serve students at West Virginia University.
I have worked therapeutically with a diverse array of clientele from athletes with performance related goals to persons recovering from stroke, living with M.S. and surviving cancer.
In addition to yoga, I find renewal in nature, family time, cycling, cross country skiing and kayaking.
Certifications: Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher 500+ (E-RYT 500) Yoga Alliance; Anusara-Inspired – I have studied and taught Anusara yoga for at least two years and have over 200 hours of Anusara yoga beyond my E-RYT. M.S. Exercise Science
